Try Something New:

Summer is finally in full force, and the living is easy! Do you notice in summertime how everything seems promising? The plants are in full bloom and the sun feels glorious on your skin. The longer days give you boundless energy, making you feel like it’s possible to achieve all your desires and dreams. Why not harness this energy, ride the wave of summer, and try something new? Did the whole idea of not being able to go on holiday abroad stress you out? Look no further, I have some top tips for Staycation to help you self-indulge in the whole concept of “Staycation”.

A week before your holiday, use these 10 tips to prepare yourself for your amazing “Staycation”

  1. Okay, this might seem like a nuts idea. Take out your suitcase and check the weather forecast, and then pack clothes for a week and put in the suitcase. Then unpack when your holiday starts and only use the clothes you packed. Remember, you are actually on holiday!

  2. Cook dishes from your favourite holiday destination. Go online and find some recipes and make a food plan for the week. Stock up the fridge and make a menu and put it on your dining table. Every morning when you wake up you’ll have some lovely menus to look forward to.

  3. Look up some areas in your neighbourhood that you have never been to. Google fun things to do, and maybe even look up the history of your town. Go and explore the areas you have never been to.

  4. Dress up for dinner, put candles on the table, and listen to music from your favourite holiday destination.

  5. “Bring” board games and cards for you and your family, then use them after dinner for games like solitaire.

  6. Be active, do morning runs, and make outdoor plans with the kids.

  7. If you are lucky to have a garden or a forest nearby, you can set up a tent and “camp out” overnight. You can also make a cool tent inside the house using blankets and table clothes, you can even put some fairy lights inside the tent. Pinterest is full of cool ideas for Glamping.

  8. Invest in a book with whatever language you are ‘on holiday in” and try to learn some new phrases every day.

  9. To create a hotel feeling in your home, tidy up your bathroom and bedroom. Put out some lovely soft towels on the bed (fold the towels up as they do in hotels), buy fresh flowers and scented candles, and create that authentic hotel feeling.

  10. Book a table at your local restaurant and enjoy going out on your holiday. During these corona times, a lot of local shops and restaurants have been suffering. By having an evening out, you not only feel like you are on holiday but you are supporting the economy of your local town which is a win-win…

What’s your normal routine when you are on holiday? Is there anything you love to do that you can implement at your Staycation?

There will be practical things around the house you need to do like cleaning the house, but try your best to get into the holiday mood and just leave some stuff for after your holiday. There are so many challenges with the coronavirus, but there is also a lot we can learn from this experience. We can do our best to slow down and just be still and trust that life will go on and be ‘normal again’. It might not be normal we were used to before, but you know what? It might be even better.

So what will you do in your Staycation? I am so looking forward to hearing what you are up to.
