Start with the habits

Blue and pink sky

Spring is finally here, and what a glorious time of year it is. The days are becoming longer, and the sky is filled with beautiful pink and blue light. Spring often goes hand in hand with new beginnings and, thereby, often the start of new habits. So I will share a few little tips to inspire you.

But before I do that, let’s clarify what new habits you may want to choose.

When we start new healthy routines, it often goes really well the first couple of weeks. But then we lose momentum and get off track, forgetting our new habits. Before committing to a new habit or routine, then ask yourself this question.

The question could be:

“Why do I want to eat healthily”

 The answer could be:

“Because I want to be more healthy”

Then again, ask yourself, well, why do I want to be more healthy?

Then you keep going by asking yourself, “Why” - you might actually be really emotional when you find out the truth about why you actually want to be healthy!

Clarifying this, or these, questions, if you have more than one, is quite motivating and relevant to adapting to your new habits. You may want to write a big note with your “why” and put it on your mirror in your bathroom; it can help to stimulate your new habit(s). Then, this will be the first thing you see every morning, and it can help push you to keep working towards your goal.

Here are a few examples of small new healthy habits you may want to add to your everyday life.

  1. Drink water in the morning instead of coffee.

  2. Stop drinking alcohol daily; keep it to once a week.

  3. Add greens to all of your meals.

  4. Bring your homemade lunch to work.

  5. Make double batches of dinner, so you already have dinner made for the next day.

  6. Be more social - walk, and talk with your friends. It's a total win-win because you get your exercise done as well.

  7. Start a new exercise routine twice a week, and ask a friend to join. Again, a win-win!

  8. Try to avoid watching TV and using time on your phone after 8 pm. Read a book instead or play board games with your friends, family, or partner.

  9. Make time every week to do ‘nothing’. Yes, a few minutes daily off the phone, meditating, or just staring out in the air is also healthy! “Do nothing for a few minutes” - write that in your calendar too!

  10. Start your Sunday by writing and planning all your new habits in your calendar. When you plan things, there is a much higher possibility that you will succeed with your new habits.

If you find these little tips easy to follow and very useful, I hope that you will be able to use some of them as well.

Please share with friends and colleagues that might benefit from them too.

Sending you loads and loads of positive energy.
