February blues, can you feel it too?

Februar 2023

It’s dark, grey, cold and mostly raining; there is not a lot of inspiring energy this time of year - or is there? What if we turn all this damp, wet, and dark weather into something nice and cozy? Is that even possible?

Let’s give it a try.

The good thing about February is that it’s short, and spring is ‘nearly’ just around the corner. There are even little signs in nature, like birds singing, and little buds in the trees. You can use this time of year to recharge, go to bed early, start new exercise routines, try new foods, go for walks in nature with family and friends, and keep moving!

So this is what I do to get energy and stay healthy and happy:

  1. I aim to go to bed before 10pm. I take a 20-minute nap when I have a day off.

  2. I walk instead of taking the bus. Especially when there is sunshine, I prioritize my walk, so I will get fresh air and a little D-vitamin.  If I don’t do that, I use time in the gym. Daily movement is a must for me.

  3. I make a lot of vegetable soups, like this easy one: https://www.myhealthcoachlulu.com/recipes/tomato-soup

  4. I make sure I have healthy snacks in the house, like veggie sticks, hummus, nut butter, wholegrain crackers, nuts, dark chocolate, and dates. These little treats help me stay healthy.

  5. Throughout the day, I drink a lot of water and tea. It helps my digestive system, which is also affected by cold and damp weather.

  6. I volunteer for the Danish Heart Association and find that very rewarding.

  7. I hug my kids, partner, and friends whenever I can. It goes without saying that family is important to me, but friends are significant as well. I find long talks with friends healing and rewarding for my overall well-being. So, investing time with friends is always on my calendar too.

  8. I start my mornings with meditations and finish by writing 10 sentences of gratitude before I sleep. It helps me reflect on life's positive side and calms my mind.

  9. I read books about self-care and my hobbies. Currently, I am reading “The Japanese Lover” and a danish book about relationships. I am a very slow reader, but it helps me fall asleep.

  10. I turn on loads of candles in the house; Danish hygge is very important to us Danes living in the dark north.

I find these little tips easy to follow and very useful, and I hope that you will be able to use some of them as well.

Please share with friends and colleagues that might benefit from them too.

Sending you loads and loads of positive energy.
